GODS
In my game world I've declared that there are not many (civilized) humanoid gods and have not been for thousands of years.1) Monsters however seem to have plentiful amounts of gods available to them. I'm not opposed to popping open the Monster Manual and just using whatever the default is for them. This creates some issues for any PC cleric but at the same time is ripe for quests and plot hooks! Meanwhile any gods for the playable humanoid races need official in game justification in the form of worshippers or specific circumstances that bring them about as a new god, or revive a god that's been long dormant. Between 5.5e rules and homebrew rules it basically just takes a lot of faith in something, by something, to start the evolution of a deity of some sort.
WORLD ENCOMPASSING GODS
- Chuck Norris - Transcended from the real world into a fantasy deity.
- Eyrun seems to have a vibe that could spawn some sort of Cloud Giant or Greek themed deity later. So far she's got a “cloud with a silver lining and a smiley face” symbology thing going on but not much else. She's also been to Mustardia where they have a “Cloud Stone” that seems to be the closest vibing thing to her holy symbol. The giants there gifted her with a ring made from it which is simply known as her Cloud Stone Ring. In her possession it has cured a therianthrope (wereboar) named Natalie which is a significant thing for a cleric to be able to do.
- KRAKAREN: When introduced to their new game setting at LV 1, the players found themselves surprised to be starting at sea on a passenger ship. A kraken, known as “Krak(AR)en” took the ship down. Being powerful beings, this kraken has future potential to evolve. Krakaren may reappear anywhere with water, from ocean to sewers, at any point in the campaign. This kraken is also known to Pirate Captain Salty Merlot which may have relevance at any future point when he is involved.
- KUO-TOA GOD: After the Kraken incident, the then LV 2 players were trapped on an island with Kuo-Toa and encountered a statue representing one of the monster gods, with a head of a Moray Eel & body of a Sea Sponge.2) The statue healed them when they left important items near it. Later they'd take a small Kuo-Toa Idol weighing 10LBS off a Kuo-Toa they'd fought. It'd turn out to randomly heal whomever was carrying it for 1d8 hit points. But after a few healings it grew physically a little and went up to 15LBS. An incident at the Mirror House involving Sunny & an intruder resulted in the idol going full statue mode and budding off a new mini. This expands the god a little bit more in a different part of the world than it started at and seems to be an issue left unresolved. More than one idol have been discovered on different continents.
- The Moose – Deity Of Berserkers. Alignment unknown. Hostile. The Moose can be anywhere.
- Ursavus - The celestial Black Bear.
GOLDVALE REGION GODS
- In the Dense Forest in the outskirts of the Goldvale area players encountered an area full of tall bamboo. The bamboo moved out of their way as they entered the area, leading them to a building which one might describe as being “no larger than my dining room” with a wooden door. The entire thing is plain looking on the outside. Inside more of the same but there is an altar, made of living wood but with a symbol on it of a vertical line with a few little evenly tilted upward branch lines on it (a cane of bamboo with leaf branchings maybe). This ended up being a temple to a Neutral Good deity of Knowledge. While PCs were here they got all sorts of insight into the local area and other pressing issues. Since the seemingly interactive bamboo around the place was interactive and this building and altar were in great condition, one can assume there is a decent sized base of followers, probably forest dwellers of some sort, to this deity.
- The Great Pumpkin - Some sort of nature entity that revolves around finding the most sincere pumpkin, with some elf followers existing over in the Dense Forest.
- Hayte (Can also be spelled as Hayt3), pronounced “Hate”.) This is an evil Deity of some sort which is slightly lost to history. Elements of Hayte have appeared in the game, although no real details have emerged on specific godly attributes beyond just being “evil”. All connections to this deity seem to be intermixed tied into Alden and The Cult Of Alden on just the continent that Goldvale exists on.
- Shrine of Hayte – A worn and fairly generic nearly forgotten old shrine in the Dense Forest region near Goldvale.
- Eye Of Hayte – A powerful artifact from the past that seems to have reappeared in present times.
- The Church Of Hayte – Rumored to be North of Goldvale, but not visited by the party. Rumors suggest the infamous Alden somehow ties into this.
- Saint Patrick – Worshiped by the Animalfolk of the Hylund Forest Community, even though he very much does not wish to be.
- The entity((The baby thing that gets into peoples' heads.) from Ferrin's House early in the campaign which ultimately was abducted and taken to modern Crompse has potential. But it has not been followed up on.
