Necro Cave

The Necro Cave on the outskirts of Goldvale is two things, 1) the lair home of Phil the necromancer and 2) (an) entry to the underdark. It starts off parodying some Monty Python by having a large bridge anyone must cross to get into the proper caves, with long falls unto the unknown below lining the bridge. An undead wizard1) named Kim2)3) asks anyone wanting to cross improvised questions whenever they arrive in an obnoxious manner, and then gets out of their way if they answer truthfully4). To leave the place, the same questions are asked by Kim again5).

Main Zone

The main zone in the Necro Cave, located just past the bridge scenario, is a series of interconnected tunnels6). It contains a randomly selected, ever changing probably, collection of Phil's undead minions patrolling. One tunnel terminates at a large rock, and getting past the rock would get someone to the underdark7). A carved stone area on the map presents as the entry way to Phil's front door which has a “Home Sweet Home” sign above it. This is a locked metal door for game purposes. There is also a side tunnel nearby that leads to a storage closet sized room that it technically “Kim's Room”, where Kim has whatever valuables he's collected at the time & can set up magical traps. Any side tunnels depicted on maps can be penned in with dry erase ink to connect them and close up this area, excluding whatever is behind the rock to the underdark zone of course.

First Encounter

At a game session on 2026-01-13 the first encounter included the contents listed below. As minifigures, maps, notes and whatever else tend to get lost, shuffled or confused between game sessions this is just a friendly reminder of what was for an evening.

  • Random undead were scattered above slowly patrolling, nothing particularly special.
  • There happened to be a gelatinous cube hanging out with a sword suspended in it as well.
  • A pair of Kenku were seemingly working their way out (peacefully) from likely the underdark.
  • BreadBert was exploring down there with a lame excuse of killing some time while waiting on his buddies to roll back into town, and teamed up with the party for a moment.8)
  • There were a few randomly placed traps, which could easily be subject to change in the future.
  • Kim's room was trapped with a riddle and an explosive this time around. Players found some loot but left it alone, not wanting to piss him off.
  • PCs talked with Phil who then insisted they take Ema a fertility potion with instructions to mix it with an equal amount of human blood.
  • Eyrun made a deal with Phil to get him to help with a little health issue9). She just has to run over to the Dense Forest and bring back an undead creature he wants to study that might help him cure her.
  • The term “Necro Terrorist” was dropped by Phil as a label for Skip.
1)
Using a random undead figure that looks vaguely wizard like.
2)

3)
Seems to be a semi independent undead NPC.
4)
We don't know what happens if they lie or are stupid.
5)
What happens if someone fails to repeat their earlier answer?
6)
Using Arcknight Winding Caverns MS-WC103 & MS-WC114.
7)
As of yet, no details about that.
8)
Hinted that Mustard Mike has joined the land pirate crew.
9)
