Mythburg

Mythburg is the large, developed, multi-species inhabited, port city, famed for having an academy of magic. It is in the Havenspass region and is currently the most dominate hub for trade in the area due to location and size.

  • Facts
  • Mythburg is the Northern Terminus of the H.T. (Havenspass Trail), and local students like to hike it to the Southern Terminus when they are on break.
  • It has surpassed the town of Havenspass to become the trade hub of the region, thanks largely to the port.
  • Lord Huacan Tang is the current ruler Mythburg.
  • Alcohol Law
    • There is a law here that makes alcohol illegal.
    • This law dates back to a time when some wizards, decades ago, got very drunk and nearly destroyed the city. Magic and Alcohol don't mix is now the official stance of those in charge at both the academy and in city leadership positions. This has the side effect of making wizards slightly unpopular to visiting sailors at the port who wish they could get some ale.
    • Drinking onboard ones own ship is however an exception.
  • There is an assassins guild here and members are sometimes sent to ambush and destroy any alcohol related carts on the main road.
  • Mythburg is divided into districts. Each district has literal walls around it which keep things moderated, by City Watch, between districts. To travel between districts a person must be well known or have proper documentation or reason. This method has proven effective to keep the populace from acting up.
  • This is a huge city, and as such the city itself has employees. In addition to the City Watch, there are maintenance workers, dock workers, and more.1)

Development

  • The Party, on a quest for Atlas, went out starting from Havenspass to check on an alcohol related cart carrying hops heading back from Mythburg and found it burned. They were promptly ambushed by two assassins. MrD8 (pronounced “Mr. Date”)2) and Brad3). They ran away from them, thinking they'd never see them again. Later, due to magical shenanigans caused by A.L.I.Z.A. The Party was transported to Brad's living room where they murdered him senseless. Which is a shame because he was a good guy, just in the wrong profession and it came back to haunt him.
  • Mustard Mike Has been banned from three cities for “operating an unlicensed mustard-based alchemical substance ring.” One of those cities is Mythburg.

Player Input

Since Mythburg only exists as part of the Player Backstories that brought it to life, it is really just around to fill out a Player (not DM) conceived section of the campaign setting. Therefor what the Players need it to be, to make of it, matters. To which I cannot reiterate enough, this is not part of the Dungeon Master's master plan. It is instead some wonderful bonus content that influences the overall.

  • “Jules” original words about Mythburg: A very developed and popular city known for inhabiting a wide variety of races, but it’s particularly attractive for those studying magic (aka clerics, sorcerers, wizards) because its main feature is a magic school. The school has a pretty hefty fine for those wishing to attend.
    • (furthermore) “I imagine at least a few of her teachers are related to the weird languages she speaks. Like goblin. And orc and dwarvish.”
  • “Eyrun's” thoughts on visiting Mythburg: Eyrun is gonna get lost in libraries in Mythburg trying to find any evidence of Silfralta btw.
  • It Stands To Reason…
    • There must be commerce between Havenspass & Mythburg based on what Havenspass produces. So there should, somewhere in Mythburg, be supplies or trades happening involving all the relevant goods such as Elven Cordage, Mistberry Preserves & the like.
    • While a city like Mythburg probably has its own criminal element, the effects of semi local ones such as Atlas Nephele and Stonefist certainly contribute to illegal alcohol sales somewhere in the city.
1)
Which will be developed if The Party sticks around long enough.
2)
Assassins Guild, Mythburg, AC 15, race not defined.
3)
Race undefined, Could have remaining family in Mythburg.
