Crowfolk
Clever, glossy-black crow humanoids that like shiny trinkets, who are also capable of mimicry. They'd make a nice rogue, but also a pretty good bard or wizard. The liking of trinkets should probably be non negotiable for anyone playing one. These are part of the homebrew Animalfolk in this campaign.
Crowfolk Traits
- Creature Type: Humanoid
- Size: Small (average 2-3 feet tall - see Small Size Rule)
- Speed: 30 feet
- Languages: Common and Sylvan suggested.
- Flight: You have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. You can’t use this flying speed while wearing medium or heavy armor.
- Mimicry: You can perfectly mimic any sound or voice you have heard at least once, limited to only using the exact words of sounds you've already heard.
- Yes, you may make a pseudo-Kenku out of this. It won't be a true Kenku, but you can make up a fantasy medical condition that lets it only talk in mimicry. If so, name the condition so we can make an adorable note about it here. What it is called, how it spreads, or maybe it is hereditary, if it can only spread to this race. Etc. Enjoy.
Additional Fine Tuning
While play testing a crowfolk named Capelin, along side several other animalfolk types, the conversation questioned which creatures are colorblind. Happily when it comes to crows, they are quite the opposite in that they are tetrachromatic, with four types of cone cells in their eyes, allowing them to see red, green, blue, and ultraviolet (UV) light. This makes them far superior to any other player character race in D&D we've experimented with so far vision wise. They can see things in that UV frequency that no one else can. They see each other not as some black feathered crowfolk, but with all sorts of shimmering colors and patterns instead with that extra color spectrum.
- Tetrachromatic Sight. They are automatically proficient in investigation checks.
