Places & People of Conservation
During a one shot game session3) featuring one shot Player Characters Jeorge (Changeling/Wizard), Romper (Tortle4)/Warlock) & Franki (Gnoll/Fighter) the Community of Conservation started to reveal itself. Each of these character has the Cryptid Scholar background and previously knew each other only by writing letters to each other about their shared interest before opting to meet up in Conservation.
- Witch's Brew Tavern - A small tavern with a bartender named Mack.
- A chicken farm with a chicken that mysteriously glows neon green under a full moon.5)
- A stream where local lore suggests if the water turns red that a Cryptid is about to attack.
- “The Un-geon” - A low level dungeon of undead that the PCs defeated, aside from one Zombie who is being possessed by it's own Ghost that asked the PCs to go kill the snakes over by the forest it think killed it originally. The Zombie/Ghost hybrid guards a bejeweled treasure chest until it is either defeated or appeased. Chances are Bobert was killed by a Dropbear and not snakes.
- Circle J - The General Store
- Carrot Fields & Farmer Housing - A cluster of farmers' who all seem to have Jackalope issues.
- Eucalyptus Forest - A forest with a particular dry area known for Dropbear attacks.
- La Crypta Inn - An impressive 4 story inn, complete with continental breakfast. 1 gold per room per night.
- Grain Silo - Place where a high potency chicken feed is made, and the owner's daughter repeatedly gets kidnapped by the aforementioned goblins.7) PCs discovered that the silo owner found a mysterious dark crystal and it is what super chargers the chicken feed. The same chicken feed that ends up being eaten by the chicken that glows neon green under moonlight.
- Eppu - Tiefling Cleric who came onto the carrot field when the PCs were battling Jackalopes to did some healing to save them.
- Collapsed Bridge & Guard Tower - Rumored location of a Mothman because of a past sighting that happened there just before the bridge collapsed, as an omen of disaster.
Lugo & Jules' Visit
Wyrd Uncle Lugo took Jules to the Community of Conservation at the same exact time that Jeorge, Romper, & Franki were there meeting for the first time. Lugo wished to impress upon Jules that he genuinely cares about her as a family member and one of the most important things for Jules is development of her book about monsters. These Cryptid Scholars specialize in hunting down abnormal monsters that could be fascinating entries for Jules' future book. Therefor Lugo and Jules cautiously tracked and observed the three Cryptid Scholars from a discrete distance, learning what they could before making contact.
When they did make contact with the three, they were all in turn excited to meet a future author(Jules), and a demon(Lugo). One of them, Jeorge, said he wished to join Jules on her adventures. The other two, Franki and Romper said they'd at least like to visit Goldvale in case there were new cryptics or local lore to learn about. And so it was Wyrd Uncle Lugo agreed to transport them all, via his magical means, to the Goldvale area. Franki and Romper were transported to the local tavern known as The Card House. There they started to be able to chat with locals about anything cryptid related they wished. By contrast Lugo transported Jules and Jeorge directly to the location of The Party, but did something outside the scope of what he said he was going to do. As they appeared, at Sucker Lake, Lugo, knowing how Alimir and Jules dislike each other, then instantly transported Alimir away! Alimir suddenly found himself… elsewhere.
Development
- Local folklore suggests that if you whistle the tune to “Row Row Row Your Boat” the Mothman won't attack you.
- Local folklore suggests that Dropbears will only attack you if you were born under a full moon. This was quickly proven to be false.
