• Greek word for WEREWOLF = “Lykanthropos”.
  • Which is where we get “Lycanthrope” for most of our fantasy terminology.
• Greek word for just WORF is therefor “Lycan”.
  • This leaves -“thrope” as the suffix to attach to something else.
• Greek Word for WILD BEAST = “therion”.¹⁾
• So Therianthrope = wild beast that transforms for fantasy purposes as a more accurate generic term to encompass a broader range of werewolf like creatures that do not take specific wolf forms, but rather wereboars, werebears, etc.
• However it is common to just incorrectly use “lycanthrope” interchangeably and this campaign likely will, but this clarification on the term “therianthrope” exists for the eventual drunken argument that will break out around the game table during a session about it someday.
• This of course creates the term “Therianthropy” as well.

A few examples of things that are classified under the term “Therianthrope” in this campaign, either fairly or not, which may have better more specific Greek roots if we wanted to waste that kind of time figuring out the terms:

• Wereboars. NPC Natalie started as one before being cured, so she's noted here as a former Therianthrope.
• Werefleas - A type of flea that doesn't transform (asymptomatic itself) but carries the disease version of specifically the werewolf's lycanthropy which it can spread.²⁾
• Werewolves. Absolutely use Lycanthrope for them if you can since it is very specific to them, but it is fair to use this term too.

• It is known that Therianthropy can be cured by the Cloud Stone Ring belonging to Eyrun, per what happened with NPC Natalie.
