Caislen Campaign Notes

Patrick is a middle aged human male with an unspecified past that settled in the reclusive forest community of Hylund Forest. He is easily imagined by thinking of the Ben Affleck meme where Ben is shown smoking a cigarette looking entirely frustrated by something. In this campaign the reason Patrick is stressed is that he'd come to this forest community comprised otherwise entirely of Animalfolk trying to get away from whatever his prior life around more common humanoids was like and assumed incorrectly that no one would be very interested in him since he was just a random outsider. But he was very incorrect with that line of thinking. He also notably has a bunch of perfectly normal cats that hang around his house indoors and out as pets.

The local Animalfolk of Hylund Forest seem to think that instead of a guy who just wants to be an introvert and live quietly that Patrick is instead some great leader or profit. He insists he’s not but it doesn't sway them. So he'll tell them “okay here’s a quest” to get them to fuck off for awhile. During a one-shot game session where a party of local animalfolk interacted with Patrick they found themselves delighted to go rescue his orange cat Whiskers from being stuck up a tree. Because this must be very important. Certainly not a distraction so they'd go away for awhile. As you'd expect, a lot of quests Patrick would be prone to giving out for the locals involve sending them on seemingly harmless errands so that he can have some time to quietly read a book or not answer silly questions as if he was all knowing.

There is a completely unshakable local vibe amongst Animalfolk that Patrick is special. They want to impress him. They think he can answer big questions for them. He's treated like an authority figure without any justification for it. If there's a mystery about something Patrick's opinion should weigh more than anyone's personal opinion. Etc.

They essentially think he's some sort of saint, which means they think of him as SAINT PATRICK. Let it be declared for campaign purposes that Patrick's unspecified background includes absolutely no religious affiliations of any kind. But per the rules of 5.5e D&D and our homebrew take on Gods, the very act of having so many people have a belief in something can have the unexpected result of elevating a belief into a deity like scenario.
