Original Backstory
Leithe started off as a throw away NPC for a side quest on a game night when 2 out of my 4 players couldn't make it. Not wanting to let the players that actually showed up down, I created an island with an assortment of little dramas happening on it and just ripped the PCs out of their normal existence, promising they could keep whatever loot and experience from the night and they'd be tossed back into the continuous existence of the normal game when the whole group gathered again.
Finding themselves breaking into a warehouse, the PCs saved two goblin teenagers who were being trafficked by slavers. Both teenage goblins, both unfortunately for me as the DM falling under the “keep whatever loot” clause. Or more so, the players got instantly attached to their sudden filler secondary characters. The longest lived of the two, Leithe, ended up on many more adventures, developed a whole girlie personality, got a mini figure for itself which got TLC and a paint job, etc. Meaning she became a real party member. Ultimately she died several levels later, everyone was sad, whatever, that's roleplaying.
New Pre/Alt Story
Leithe has now found herself as the burger cook at The Card House in Goldvale. On my first go around in Goldvale there was a goblin named “Gobbo” who was the burger cook. I opted to swap Leithe in to torment the player who used to use her as a beloved PC. The catch is that I've set a storyline for Leithe in that she's specifically told the PCs that she feels like she's under constant threat by some slavers who are lurking in the area, with fear of becoming, you guessed it, trafficked! This triggers the actual player who used to have Leithe as a PC because now she can see this game reset has come slightly in time before the kidnapping, and as a player she knows what the future holds, even though her PC doesn't. But big surprise, this immediately leads to the PC Eyrun deciding she needs to hunt down and stop the slavers before anything can happen to Leithe. Will her motivation to do that be because she hopes to get this alternate Leithe back as a PC? Will she realize a butterfly effect would screw up the timeline of her own past adventures in my prior game? Maybe. This is when having some past material that can be tweaked and dumped into a new incarnation really pays off.
Development
- Slavers Eliminated - The party consisting of Eyrun, Jules and Urist encountered the slavers random and defeated them at a game session on 2026-01-06. Turns out it was 4 bugbears and a couple of human conspirators working in the area. This effectively changes whatever timeline/future Leithe would have in this world.
Ode to the Smashburger
The meat go sizzle like angry bat
fat pop pop pop
i flip it hard with spatula of destiny
(if i drop it mom gonna yell at me)
onion cry real tears on the grill

cheese melt like my dreams of leaving this hole
but at least it tastes good i guess??
pickle slice stare at me judgmental
like “girl why u still here”
shut up pickle i’m poetic tonight

or i’ll cry
and then spit in the next one — Leithe
Plot Hooks
- Just like “Gobbo” before her in the role, Leithe ended up being the burger cook because she was feeding her tribe, already known for her talent with burgers, but got cocky and put some fancy mushrooms on the burgers. Said mushrooms were poisonous and she didn't know, and she killed off some of them, resulting in being outcast. Thus she finds herself as the Spongebob of the local tavern/inn.
- Could spawn quests for the party to have them pick up burger toppings or meats to turn into burgers as filler.
- Cole fancies her, that could amount to something. Especially since she serves “coleslaw” on some of her burgers.
- Players completed a quest to get her crate of stuff from the Keep, allowing her to move into a new place in Goldvale.
