Jim Bob The Bullfrog
Let me just preface this by saying that this frog was given to the party by Kim at the Necro Cave bridge simply because someone else that probably didn't survive being there left it laying around and Kim didn't want to deal with a pet. It was given to the party, c/o Eyrun, along with a small glass terrarium it lives in and described as being a frog without a name. That's it. But I know how my players think and act, so this simple frog gets an entry here because somehow they'll be incapable of letting a frog just live its best life. We'll just do some bullet point entries as frog based shenanigans occur in game for now.
His Story
- Party adopts frog at Necro Cave.
- Eyrun immediately names it “Jim Bob The Bullfrog.”
- Frog becomes instrumental in saving the party from a cage trap inside of Wyrd Uncle Lugo's man hole cover dungeon. I'm just going to go ahead and award the frog 25XP for that.
- The Party goes to the cloud island of Mustardia and Eyrun reaches a conclusion about keeping pets that Jules would seemingly never make, which is that they can't really care for pets while being adventurers. So Eyrun releases Jim Bob The Bullfrog to an indoor pond in the room of a Bullywug Knight to live a better life.
- This threw the DM for a loop because certainly players MUST adopt and make a huge deal of cute defenseless things! Is the DM becoming attached? Damnit.
- An annoying Quickling sabotaged the pond and its pump system in the room and caused it all to flood out into a hallway, setting Jim Bob free in Mustardia Manor.
- Jim Bob quote “came in clutch” by using his long sticky tongue to snatch an unexploded slapple out of the hands of the Quickling as the party was in their final battle with it. Eyrun then forgot her prior hesitation about pets and placed Jim Bob ceremoniously on her shoulder, taking him with her for the rest of the session. Let's say he gets another 25XP for that and he's still with the party at this time.
- Note that Jim Bob has a long sticky tongue he can grab stuff with for future sake of argument in the fantasy setting.
- As a bullfrog let's go ahead and say he weighs 1LBS as a young bullfrog and base him on the American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus).
What next? Will someone try to kiss it hoping it turns into prince charming? Will it evolve into an important member of The Party? Will they give it a home inside the Warlock Well to see if it takes on any strange powers? Will someone show up at a game session with a frog miniature? It's all speculation but somehow this frog's story doesn't seem like it can end this quickly.
