Quests
This is here to refresh everyone's memories between games and during games of what is actually available to do. A 4th wall breaking reminder by your charming Dungeon Master of what's what.
Main Plot Energy
Matilda has released a swarm of beavers overnight as she made her exit. Clear the beavers and restore the mesh. This is the morning the session is written to start on. Dams in the ditches threaten the pond, the town’s water, and whatever the mesh actually protects. Jack, Nystor, and the Hermit all have stakes, and the beaver page is flagged as relevant. Doing this first also gives the town a reason to notice Matilda is gone before the party chases her.
Get to the golden dragon eggs before Matilda does. Skip is the escort that's already paid, and he is the only non-Hayte lead. The eggs are tied to old Toc Clan history (Alden once slaughtered that clan for eggs) and to the cult. Racing her there, or forcing Skip to talk before she reaches him, is the cleanest way to turn her exit into a pursuit instead of a surprise later. The anti-cult hunters and Jack are possible allies if the party decides she is an enemy rather than a runaway friend.
Trival Quests
- The Lundersnooch came through Krymec's Vault and is being annoying at Zerk Swamp. Hunt it down. Although it has already not been a focus.
- Lugo's Contract… now just impacts Skip who probably will try to talk The Party into something or other to help him with it. The Party probably doesn't care, but you do know Skip came into some treasure maps recently so talking to him could yield dungeon locations and loot.
Summary
Goldvale is in the middle of a messy handoff. The town is still the party’s base, built around the goldfish pond and the ditches that feed it. Those fish are not decoration: locals call them the Goldfish Mesh, a protective network Jack and Nystor both want intact. The party had already been pulled into that problem after Brumette, working for the Hermit, took a school of fish. Jack warned them not to provoke the Hermit and to return the fish rather than dump them in Sucker Lake.
Overnight, that problem got worse. Matilda slipped out of The Card House instead of waiting for the group to visit the Shrine of Hayte. She used the Bellows of Beaver Summoning to loose hundreds of beavers across town so dams would wreck the ditches and the mesh. The next morning is meant to open on ecological chaos and a missing party member.
Matilda is no longer a PC. After she threw the Shovel of Alden and Kelthor’s Book of Great Awareness into the Warlock Well, she aligned with the old god Hayte and started making contacts inside the Cult of Alden. She wants power, a way back to her sister Elena in Berm, and the golden dragon eggs Hayte whispered to her about. The only other person who knows how to find those eggs is Skip, whom the party already paid 20 gold to escort them there, with a gamble for whatever treasure turns up. She also knows she has enemies: golden dragons, Jack, the three cult-hunters the party met on the road, and now likely Jules, Urist, Vesper, and Jeorge. A Church of Hayte sits north of town, and the Eye of Hayte is still out there.
The rest of the table has shifted too. Lugo pulled Jules off to the Community of Conservation, where she met the cryptid scholars; Jeorge, a changeling wizard, joined on the spot. Romper and Franki are probably still at The Card House studying local lore. Lugo swapped Alimir out to the pig farm he holds a deed for. Under the island in Sucker Lake the party found a Toc Clan shrine to Maxeaul, took the Ring of Ted off the statue (it matches Urist’s jade rings), killed four dark-dwarf descendants without questioning them, and on the way back met Vules, the wood-elf energy vampire out of Crompse who now holds the lake.
