Caislen Campaign Notes

The town of Goldvale itself gets its name from the endless seeming drainage ditches and irrigation ditches that all have connections back to this Goldfish Pond. The pond itself has been used like a wishing well by locals and contains all sorts of coins and even some gems in it. For Goldvale, this pond basically defines their town, with throngs of goldfish emanating from it and spreading out daily across all the irrigation and waterways. It just wouldn't be Goldvale without this. Large threatening monsters and similar seem to avoid Goldvale for some reason.

• This pond was the brief resting place of the artifact known as the Shovel Of Alden thanks to The Party.
  • It was later removed by Milo of the AAP.
• The Party started to learn more about the goldfish after talking to the likes of The Hermit, Jack, Nystor & gathering local rumors.
• When an irrigation ditch full of goldfish was abducted by Brumette on behalf of The Hermit, drama ensued. This created a gap in what is properly called “The Mesh” in Goldvale.
• The Mesh is in reality one or more poly-morphed gold dragons taking goldfish shape, dispersing themselves out to patrol all of Goldvale simultaneously to guard against high level threats¹⁾. They ignore low level threats²⁾.
• If part of this mesh goes missing, such as in the case of the irrigation ditch example, a couple hundred goldfish, then technically part of a dragon is missing. This creates a gap in the security of Goldvale, as well as could perhaps cripple a dragon trying to reform. In time more goldfish will breed and The Mesh will self heal, but high volumes of missing fish could ruin the status of The Mesh for a month or more. Trivial amounts of goldfish, such as 10 or less, matter far less to the overall.
• The most recent event to happen was The Hermit sent The Party to dump goldfish into Sucker Lake. The vampires there stopped The Party, let The Party get distracted exploring the lake area, and while they did that they took the goldfish³⁾ back to Goldvale and dumped them back into the ditches, restoring The Mesh. This was a three point action/strategy: 1) attempt to keep golden dragon influence out of Sucker Lake which could be ruinous to them. 2) Keep the gold dragon(s) on a positive status so they see they vampires are no real threat. 3) Keep The Mesh up so that The Hermit actually can't get into the proper town area of Goldvale.
• The known reason The Mesh exists here in the first place is primarily to protect the Shovel Of Alden from being taken, and the powers that be in Goldvale do their best to keep the shovel hidden. Jack is an accomplice to the The Mesh in this endeavor.
• There is another reason for The Mesh, but it has yet to be discovered. It does however relate to the Toc Clan Coal Mine Event.
• A new holiday has been declared for the 2nd Day of Winter each year known as The Dam Holiday, which relates to the goldfish of goldvale.
