Homestead Supply Outline

Use this as a roleplaying reference. Notes indicate the most natural places, NPCs, or reasons based on Goldvale's setting (town features, residents, forests, ruins, etc.) where supplies can be sourced for player character homesteading.

SPOILERS: If you're reading this before it is a thing in game, maybe STOP so you don't spoil anything for yourself.

Building & Structural Materials

Quality lumber and beams – Dense Forest (slightly SW of Goldvale). Abundant timber; paths or the Tree Island Farm Circle area provide access points. Watch for dense undergrowth or residual Shangri Elf history.

Cut stone or bricks – Ruins such as Ferrin’s Ruin (former cult hideout in town), Rusty Cave, Krymec’s Vault, Fort Scale, or historic Toc Clan Dwarven sites near the plateau/Necro Cave. Good scavenging opportunities.

Iron nails, hinges, and fittings – Sam Smith (former blacksmith, now at Club Haversack by the Shrine of Heaglin in the “Not So Dense” Forest). Alternatively Old Rattlecart (traveling merchant currently visiting) or The Guy for installation help.

Thatch, shingles, or roofing tiles – Dense Forest for natural thatch materials; The Guy (gnome handyman in town) can advise on sourcing or construction runs. Fence posts, rails, and wire/rope – Dense Forest for wooden posts/rails; Old Rattlecart for rope or wire; Sam Smith for any metal components.

Tools & Equipment

Tools for construction and farming – The Guy (long-time Goldvale gnome handyman who builds whatever locals need and often asks for supply-cart help). Old Rattlecart carries practical gear (including a portable field forge kit). Sam Smith’s smith background is another option.

Food Production & Self-Sufficiency

Seeds, seedlings, and basic farming gear – Fig-Daisy (botanist living at the Necro Cave with Phil; she has explored the Dense Forest for plants and studied with an herbalist). Tree Island Farm Circle (vegetable/fruit farmland ring in the Dense Forest) for local varieties or knowledge. Livestock starters – Connections via the Sock Flock (Harthis tied to Zingle’s Temple of the Lost Socks—wool-producing animals). Negotiate with townsfolk at The Card House, or check farms/scavenge near forest edges.

Cooking and storage equipment – The Card House (tavern & inn; Leithe handles cooking, general supplies available). Old Rattlecart or The Guy for barrels, pots, and shelves.

Household Comforts & Supplies

Bedding, textiles, and furniture basics – Sock Flock / Order of the Lost Socks (wool from the Harthis). The Guy can build simple furniture. Old Rattlecart for textiles or practical household gear. Healing herbs, bandages, and a first-aid kit – Fig-Daisy (botanist/herbalist). Kori’s Potions (pixie-run shop in town sells healing potions and more). Phil at the Necro Cave for unusual alchemical or medical needs.

Security & Defense

Locks, bars, and reinforced doors/shutters – Sam Smith (smith skills). The Guy for fitting and installation. Scavenge from Ferrin’s Ruin or other local ruins. Defensive perimeter materials – Dense Forest or “Not So Dense” Forest for stakes and natural materials. Ferret Caves or other caves/ruins for scavenged components. Old Rattlecart for traps/gear. Weapons rack and basic armory stock – Sam Smith (smith + former bandit leader). Old Rattlecart (carries various practical weapons). Scavenge from the Shrine of Heaglin bandit site or nearby dungeons (Krymec’s Vault, etc.). A guard animal or two – Sock Flock connections or local dogs via Card House patrons/townsfolk. Forests or Unicorn Grotto area for more unusual options (handle carefully).

Utilities & Infrastructure

A reliable water source upgrade – Town’s goldfish pond and extensive irrigation/drainage ditch system (tiny bridges everywhere) for inspiration or materials. The Guy for practical well/cistern work. Nearby forest streams; Warlock Well is present but more mystical than mundane. Lighting and fire safety – Kori’s Potions (including Korifire Bottles). Old Rattlecart (tarps, practical gear). The Guy or general town sources for lanterns and oil.

Claiming, Labor & Protection

Signage, boundary markers, and a simple map – Post Station (mail system). Jack at The Card House (has acted as local real-estate contact). Townsfolk or travelers for local knowledge and markers. Hireling or specialist help – The Guy (ideal work-oriented handyman who frequently needs or provides supply-cart labor). Temporary help from Card House patrons, Cole, or other residents. Basic magical or religious protection – Zingle at the Temple of the Lost Socks (local cleric; can provide blessings, rituals, holy water, sage, salt, or ward advice—Order of the Lost Socks and Sock Flock are tied here). Warlock Well for stranger bargains if desired; Phil for alchemical alternatives.
